Audi RS6 Buyer's Guide

The RS6 is Audi's flagship fast estate, four generations of twin-turbo all-wheel-drive family car with supercar outputs. Our data so far is one sale: a 2004 RS6 Plus C5 Avant, one of 999 run-out cars, hammered at £14,625 in May 2026, with C7-generation cars in the active listings estimated up to £30,000.

Know your generations

The C5 (2002–2004) started it: a 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 with 450bhp, five-speed automatic and Dynamic Ride Control, offered as saloon and Avant; the RS6 Plus (like our sold car) closed production with more power and numbered plaques. The C6 (2008–2010) is the outlier: a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10 with 580bhp, the most powerful and thirstiest of the family and the rarest in the UK. The C7 (2013–2018) moved to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (560bhp, 605 in Performance trim), Avant-only, and is the generation now flowing into the auction market: our listings include a 2014 C7 RS6 estimated at £20,000 to £30,000, alongside a 2013 C7 S6 Avant (the junior car, worth keeping distinct) estimated at £15,000 to £20,000 with bidding at £2,645 at the time of capture. The C8 (2019-on) remains a used car rather than an auction classic.

What to pay

One hammer price: £14,625, for a limited-run C5 RS6 Plus. That is the entirety of our sold evidence, so we will not build tiers on it. For context from live listings, C7 RS6s are estimated at £20,000 to £30,000. Qualitatively, clean C5s and especially Plus cars are appreciating as the first-generation collectible, and the V10 C6 trades on rarity; neither statement should be converted into a number our data does not contain.

What goes wrong

Every RS6 generation shares one truth: deferred maintenance is catastrophic to the wallet. On the C5, the Dynamic Ride Control dampers leak and lose their linked-circuit function (specialist rebuild territory), the turbos sit in a hot vee and access is engine-out for many jobs, and the ZF five-speed automatic needs fluid changes it was never officially given. The C6's V10 adds appetite: high oil consumption is common, and its DRC system has the same habits. The C7 is the most robust of the classics-in-waiting, but check for gearbox service history on the eight-speed auto, listen for chain rattle on start-up, and confirm the air suspension (where fitted in place of DRC) holds height overnight. All generations eat brakes and tyres at a rate proportional to their performance, and a full specialist history is worth paying for on any of them.

Our view

The C5 RS6, and the Plus above all, is the collector's pick: first of the line, rare, and our £14,625 result for a numbered Plus looks like money that will age well if the DRC and gearbox have been sorted. The C7 is the one to actually drive: the strongest blend of pace and durability, currently estimated at £20,000 to £30,000 in our listings. The C6 V10 is for the brave; magnificent, rare, and the most expensive of the three to keep honest.

About Audi

A thin but instructive market: 16 sold results, R8s at £34,875 to £62,438 and everything else under £4,000. The middle tier barely exists at auction yet.
