Stag V8 Issues ⚠️
The Stag V8 is notorious but fixable:
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Timing chain | Single-row breaks | Duplex conversion |
| Overheating | Inadequate cooling | Electric fan, bigger rad |
| Head gasket | Heat damage | Proper maintenance |
Properly sorted Stags are excellent - verify what work has been done.
Swing Axle Warning ⚠️
Early Spitfire, GT6 Mk1, Herald, Vitesse have swing-axle rear:
- Positive camber change causes rear tuck-under
- Sudden oversteer at limit
- Drive within limits
Later models (GT6 Mk2+, Vitesse Mk2) have improved geometry.
Dolomite Sprint - 16-Valve Pioneer
First mass-produced 16-valve engine:
- 2.0L SOHC 16-valve
- 127hp
- Head warping/gasket issues
- Requires careful cooling maintenance
Rust - Universal Enemy ⚠️
| Area | Severity |
|---|---|
| Sills | CRITICAL (structural) |
| Outriggers | CRITICAL (chassis cars) |
| Floors | HIGH |
| Rear arches | HIGH |
| A-posts | HIGH |
Check everything - excellent reproduction panels available.
