The E-Type Series I (1961-1968) is the purest and most valuable. Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car ever made." Initially with 3.8-litre (265hp), later 4.2-litre. Features covered headlights, small taillights, and toggle switches. Flat-floor cars (1961-1962) most valuable. Values from £100k to £300k+ (flat-floor Roadster).
Engine: XK six (S1/S2) - oil leaks, cooling critical, timing chain, head gasket if overheated. V12 (S3) - generally reliable but complex carburettors (some converted to EFI), overheating if coolant neglected, head gaskets expensive, distributor issues. Cooling: Critical on all E-Types - modern fans recommended. Gearbox: All-synchro from 1965. Earlier Moss box synchros wear. Brakes: Discs all round but inboard rears (S3) can seize. Servo issues. Body: Monocoque steel - rust in sills, floors, inner wings, bonnet frame, boot floor critical. Bonnet fit notoriously difficult. Electrics: Lucas issues. Budget £8-15k annually.
Series 1 (most valuable), Flat-floor 3.8, Roadster/OTS body, Matching numbers, Heritage Certificate, Good panel fit, Recent restoration, Good chrome, Original colours
