The final Midget (1974-1979) controversially adopted the Triumph Spitfire 1500cc engine producing 65hp. Rubber bumpers raised the ride height. Despite criticism for handling changes, the 1500 offers more torque and better parts availability than A-series cars. The last of the affordable British sports cars.
Triumph engine big-end bearing wear if oil pressure drops. Raised ride height affects handling - lowering kits available. Rear axle thrust washers wear. Actually easier to maintain than A-series. More parts available from Triumph sources.
Lowering kit fitted. Overdrive. Wire wheels conversion. Roll bar. Good examples of the last British small sports car gaining value.
