Highlights Desirable early Series 1 "Flat Floor" FHC Full matching numbers, Jaguar Heritage certified 3.8-litre straight-six, manual transmission 61,651 miles on the clock 1 of 1,798 examples built in RHD Overview Long revered as the most beautiful car ever made, the E-Type is one of the most sought after and collectible automobiles in the world. Naturally, laying your hands on a pristine example of a Series 1 car (the one everyone wants), is not only very tricky, but potentially financially rui...
The E-Type FHC (Fixed Head Coupe) offered GT refinement with the stunning fastback styling. Practical hatchback rear. Available in Series 1 and 2.
Engine: XK six (S1/S2) - oil leaks, cooling critical, timing chain, head gasket if overheated. V12 (S3) - generally reliable but complex carburettors (some converted to EFI), overheating if coolant neglected, head gaskets expensive, distributor issues. Cooling: Critical on all E-Types - modern fans recommended. Gearbox: All-synchro from 1965. Earlier Moss box synchros wear. Brakes: Discs all round but inboard rears (S3) can seize. Servo issues. Body: Monocoque steel - rust in sills, floors, inner wings, bonnet frame, boot floor critical. Bonnet fit notoriously difficult. Electrics: Lucas issues. Budget £8-15k annually.
Series 1 (most valuable), Flat-floor 3.8, Roadster/OTS body, Matching numbers, Heritage Certificate, Good panel fit, Recent restoration, Good chrome, Original colours
