The W211 E240 (2002-2005) used the M112 2.6-litre V6 producing 177hp, offering a smoother alternative to supercharged four-cylinders. The naturally aspirated engine provided refined power delivery suited to relaxed motoring. Replaced by the E280 in 2005, making it a relatively rare variant. Interior trim and equipment matched more powerful models. The V6 smoothness made it popular in markets where engine capacity taxation was less punitive. Adequate performance but overshadowed by more powerful V6 options.

M112 generally reliable but watch for worn timing chain tensioners on high mileage. SBC braking on early cars requires dealer reset after battery drain. Airmatic suspension expensive to repair - compressor £500+, struts £400+ each. Rust in rear wheel arches. Balance shaft issues rare but possible. Transmission conductor plate failures cause harsh shifting. MAF sensor failures affect running.
