About the S500
The W222 S500 (2013-2020) used the M278 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 with 455hp. The default executive express with effortless performance. Later cars used M256 inline-six.
Known Issues to Watch For
Engine: M276 V6 reliable. M278/M176 V8 - check for oil leaks. M279 V12 - complex but generally reliable. OM642 diesel - injector seals. AIRMATIC: Improved but still expensive. Check for warning lights. Magic Body Control: Even more sophisticated - expensive when faulty. Electrics: Extremely complex - dozens of control units. Ensure all systems work. COMAND/MBUX screens.
