About the SL55 AMG

The R230 SL55 AMG (2002-2008) was AMG's supercharged super-roadster. The M113K 5.4-litre supercharged V8 produced 493hp, propelling the heavy SL to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. The combination of retractable hardtop practicality and devastating performance created a true grand touring convertible. The SL55 AMG offers excellent value as a used performance car.

Known Issues to Watch For

Engine: M113K supercharged - intercooler pump, supercharger clutch, pulley bearings. Transmission: 722.6 robust. ABC: Standard on AMG - very expensive. Budget for overhaul. Roof: Retractable hardtop mechanism complex and expensive. SBC: Pre-facelift cars have problematic brakes. General: ABC and roof mechanism are main concerns.
