About the 911 Carrera 4

The 996 Carrera 4 added all-wheel drive to the water-cooled 911. The new AWD system was lighter and more sophisticated than the 993's, with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) providing electronic assistance. The C4 offered security in poor weather while maintaining the 911's essential character.

Known Issues to Watch For

All Carrera issues plus: AWD adds viscous coupling and transfer case concerns. Front diff seals can leak. PSM sensors can fail. Otherwise similar to Carrera 2.
