The XK140 Roadster (1954-1957) evolved the XK120 with improved performance (190hp standard, 210hp SE) and better interior space. Rack and pinion steering improved handling. Values from £100k.

Engine: XK twin-cam six legendary for longevity but oil leaks common (rear main seal, timing cover). Overheating if cooling system neglected. Head gasket issues. Timing chain tensioner. Carburettors need regular attention. Gearbox: Moss 4-speed - synchros wear, especially 1st/2nd. Overdrive desirable. Brakes: Drums (XK120/140) adequate but fade. Discs (XK150) much better but master cylinder issues. Body: Steel over ash frame (Roadster) or all-steel - rust in floors, sills, inner wings, boot floor critical. Wood frame can rot. Electrics: Lucas - rewiring often beneficial. Chrome: Expensive to restore. Budget £8-15k annually.
