1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Coupé (5.3 litre)

The Jaguar XJS V12 (1975-1996) was a grand tourer with the magnificent 5.3-litre (later 6.0-litre) V12. HE (High Efficiency) from 1981 improved economy. The 6.0 (1993+) produced 318hp. Classic GT values from £15k.

Engine: V12 - generally reliable but complex carburettors (some converted to EFI), cooling critical, distributor issues. 6.0 most reliable. AJ16 six - timing chain tensioner critical, head gasket. Transmission: GM400 auto (V12) or Getrag manual (six). ZF on late cars. Electrics: Complex - cruise, A/C, sunroof all problematic. Body: Rust in sills, rear arches, screen surrounds. Convertible mechanism complex. Budget £5-8k (six), £8-12k (V12) annually.
