Jaguar XK120
XK120 - XK120 (1948-1954)
Price on request
The Jaguar XK120 Roadster (1948-1954) stunned the world as the fastest production car of its era, capable of 120mph (hence the name). The legendary 3.4-litre XK twin-cam six produced 160hp. Early cars had aluminium bodies (very valuable). The quintessential British sports car that established Jaguar as a serious manufacturer. Values from £100k.
Engine: XK twin-cam six legendary for longevity but oil leaks common (rear main seal, timing cover). Overheating if cooling system neglected. Head gasket issues. Timing chain tensioner. Carburettors need regular attention. Gearbox: Moss 4-speed - synchros wear, especially 1st/2nd. Overdrive desirable. Brakes: Drums (XK120/140) adequate but fade. Discs (XK150) much better but master cylinder issues. Body: Steel over ash frame (Roadster) or all-steel - rust in floors, sills, inner wings, boot floor critical. Wood frame can rot. Electrics: Lucas - rewiring often beneficial. Chrome: Expensive to restore. Budget £8-15k annually.
Roadster body (most valuable), S specification (XK150), SE specification (XK140), Overdrive, Wire wheels, Matching numbers, Heritage Certificate, Good chrome, Tool kit
