The W203 C230 (2002-2007) used the M271 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder producing 192hp, or the M272 2.5-litre V6 with 204hp. The V6 offered smoother power delivery and better refinement, while the Kompressor four provided eager performance with superior economy. Both represented the sweet spot of the range - adequate performance without the running costs of the AMG models. The sportier coupe bodystyle (CL203) proved particularly popular.

M271 Kompressor: timing chain tensioner and balance shaft sprocket failures (budget for replacement). M272 V6: balance shaft sprocket wear on early engines, intake manifold failures. Automatic transmission conductor plate issues. Rust in subframe mounts on all versions. Check suspension bushes - worn components affect handling significantly. Electric seat motor failures. Air suspension (if fitted) prone to leaks.
