The Lotus Seven (1957-1972) defined the lightweight sports car formula. Designed by Colin Chapman, the minimalist roadster offered maximum driving thrills with minimal weight. Various series (S1-S4) with Ford or Lotus engines (40-125hp). Around 2,500 built before Lotus sold the design to Caterham. The purest expression of Chapman's "simplify then add lightness" philosophy.
Chassis: Space frame - check all tubes for corrosion, particularly around suspension mounts and floor. Crash damage can be hidden. Engine: Various Ford or Lotus units - well understood. Suspension: Check bushes, wishbones. Weather protection: Minimal - these are fair-weather cars. Documentation: Verify authenticity - many replicas exist.
