The Triumph Stag (1970-1977) is the V8 grand tourer. All-new 3.0 V8 with 145hp. T-bar roof, proper four seats. Around 25,900 built. Notorious for engine issues but properly sorted examples are excellent - smooth, refined, and capable. Values from £15k.
Stag: Engine: The infamous 3.0 V8 - when sorted, it's smooth and torquey. BUT original issues: timing chain failure (single-row), overheating (inadequate cooling), head gasket failure, water pump. Many now have improved spec: duplex timing chain, better cooling, hardened valve seats. Verify what has been done. Rover V8 swaps common - practical but purists dislike. Gearbox: BW35 auto adequate; manual with overdrive rare but desirable. Chassis: Monocoque - sills are structural and complex. Inner/outer sills, A-posts, rear arches, boot floor rust. Soft/hard tops: Check condition. Values: Good ones command strong money. Basket cases still cheap. Budget £2-5k annually depending on engine state.
Stag manual + overdrive (rare), Vitesse Mk2 Convertible, Herald Convertible, Sorted Stag engine (documented work), Hard top
