Aston Martin DB Series
DB6 - DB6
£144,144
The Aston Martin DB6 (1965-1970) evolved the DB5 with improved aerodynamics, a longer wheelbase, and better rear seat accommodation. The Kamm tail improved high-speed stability. The 4.0-litre six produced 282hp (325hp in Vantage form). Around 1,327 Mk1 and 240 Mk2 were built. The DB6 offers more practicality than the DB5 at slightly lower values, though excellent examples still command £400k+.
Engine: Tadek Marek six generally robust but specialist knowledge required. Carburettors need regular attention. Oil leaks common. Cooling system critical in summer. Transmission: ZF manual or Borg-Warner auto - both need specialist service. Electrics: Lucas components - rewiring often beneficial. Body: Superleggera construction means aluminium panels over steel frame - check for corrosion at junction points, repairs expensive. Chrome: Expensive to restore. Trim: Interior trim parts very expensive. General: These are appreciating classics requiring significant maintenance budgets. Expect £20k+ annually for proper maintenance. Specialist essential.
