The car that created the hot hatch segment. Originally 1.6-litre with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection producing 110bhp, later upgraded to 1.8-litre with 112bhp. Light weight (810kg) and precise handling made it a driver's benchmark. UK models included the distinctive tartan seat trim that became a GTI trademark.
Rust in sills, inner wings, and battery tray. K-Jetronic fuel injection requires specialist knowledge. Front subframe mounts corrode. Interior trim fragile and expensive to replace. Timing belt tensioner failure. Water ingress around windscreen and door seals.
Original BBS alloys. Pirelli editions with P-slot wheels. Campaign model additions. Sunroof (though adds rust risk). Period accessories including driving lights and mudflaps. Matching numbers engine. Original tool kit.
