About the DB9
The Aston Martin DB9 (2004-2016) replaced the DB7 with an all-new VH platform and 5.9-litre V12 producing 450hp (later 510hp). Designed by Henrik Fisker, the DB9 defined modern Aston Martin design language. The DB9 offered genuine supercar performance with GT refinement. Production over 12 years made it successful. Values from £40k for early cars to £80k+ for late GT specification.
Known Issues to Watch For
Engine: V12 generally reliable but: Coil packs fail (x12, £1500+ to replace all). Throttle bodies. Coolant hoses (check all). Oil cooler lines. Clutch (manual) expensive. Transmission: Manual robust but clutch £5k+. Touchtronic 2 auto improved over DB7 but can still be jerky. Hydraulic pump (auto). Electrics: Complex - Volvo-derived systems. Battery drain. Various sensors. TPMS. Infotainment dated. Suspension: Bilstein dampers - check for leaks. Control arms. Brakes: Carbon ceramics if fitted expensive when worn. Body: Aluminium - check for accident damage repair quality. Bonnet fit common complaint. General: Budget £5-10k annually. Specialist service essential.
