The first-generation Corvette (C1) established America's sports car legacy. Early models featured the Blue Flame inline-six, but the 1955 introduction of the small-block V8 transformed its character. The 1956-57 models offered fuel injection as an option, while the 1958-62 cars grew larger with quad headlights. These handsome roadsters combined European sports car inspiration with American V8 power, creating a uniquely American sports car formula.
Fibreglass body cracks and repairs need specialist assessment. Frame rust is the critical concern - check outriggers and crossmembers thoroughly. Early Powerglide automatics are unreliable. Fuel injection systems are complex and expensive to restore. Chrome and trim pieces increasingly difficult to source in correct quality. Convertible top mechanisms wear. Rochester carburettor rebuilds needed regularly.
