The Porsche 944 (1982-1991) was a front-engine, rear-drive sports car that outsold the 911 during its production. The 2.5-litre inline-four produced 163hp initially. The 944 offered genuine Porsche handling with better weight distribution than the 911. Build quality was excellent and the transaxle layout delivered neutral handling. Increasingly appreciated as a usable classic Porsche at accessible prices.
Timing belt critical - replace at 40k miles with balance shaft belt and water pump. Clutch: Dual-mass flywheel on later cars can fail. Electrics: Instrument cluster, power windows. Body: Galvanised but check hatch seal area, windscreen surrounds. Suspension: Balance tube corrosion, ball joints. Generally very reliable when maintained.
Manual gearbox, Sport seats, LSD, Full service history, Recent timing belt, Good bodywork, Low mileage
