About the S600
The W220 S600 (1999-2005) used the M137 5.8-litre V12 (2000-2002) then M275 twin-turbo 5.5 V12 (2002+) with up to 500hp. The flagship offered extraordinary refinement. Later twin-turbo cars more reliable. ABC suspension standard.
Known Issues to Watch For
Engine: M112 V6 reliable. M113 V8 generally good but check for oil leaks. M137 V12 (early) - coil packs, wiring. M275 twin-turbo V12 - more reliable but turbos expensive. AIRMATIC: Standard on most - expensive when faulty. Struts, compressor, valve block all fail. Budget £2-4k for overhaul. ABC: On AMG/V12 - even more expensive. £5k+ for full service. SBC Brakes: Sensotronic problematic - many converted to conventional. COMAND: Screen failures. General: W220 reliability worse than W140. Facelift (2002+) improved. Avoid high-mileage neglected examples.
