The MGF (1995-2002) marked MGs return to sports cars after a 15-year gap. The mid-engined layout with Hydragas suspension was revolutionary for MG. The standard 1.8i produced 120hp from the K-series engine. Handling was praised but reliability concerns affected reputation. First truly modern MG sports car.
Head gasket failure is the primary concern - K-series engines notorious for this. Check for mayonnaise under oil cap and cooling system condition. Hydragas suspension loses pressure - check ride height. Soft top mechanisms complex and fail. Subframe mounts corrode.
Hardtop, steel subframe upgrade, head gasket uprated (MLS type). Later cars with improved gaskets. Full service history essential. Low mileage examples with documented head gasket replacement.
