Defender: Chassis rust is CRITICAL - check outriggers, crossmembers, spring hangers. Galvanised replacement £5-8k. Bulkhead footwells rust. Engine varies by era - Tdi simple and reliable, Td5 more complex, TDCi most modern. R380 gearbox mainshaft wear. Budget £2-5k annually.
