All-wheel drive transformed the Carrera into a year-round performer. The wider rear bodywork accommodated the PTM system, adding both capability and visual presence. While slightly heavier than rear-drive models, the Carrera 4 offered superior traction and confidence in poor conditions without sacrificing the essential 911 character.

All Carrera issues apply plus PTM transfer case requires correct fluid and service. Propshaft centre bearing can wear. Additional drivetrain complexity means more potential wear items. Weight gain affects fuel economy and some handling characteristics compared to rear-drive.
